Turn Trash Into Treasure with Food Scrap Collection!

Thank you to everyone who dropped off their food scraps at the Markets in June! With your help, we collected 13,124 lbs. of food scraps across all our Markets, surpassing our 8,000 lb. goal.

For those of you who entered the giveaway to receive a free bag of compost, check your emails this week to see if you are a lucky recipient!

Keep up the great work! Just because June is over, doesn’t mean we don’t want your scraps anymore. We will be accepting food scraps at all our Markets through the end of the season!

SNAP at the Farmers Markets

Did you know that we match SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits up to $30 at five of our Farmers Markets? That means you can get more fruits and vegetables for less. SNAP matching is offered at the McCutcheon/Mount Vernon, Wakefield, Annandale, Reston, and Lorton locations.

SNAP matching at Fairfax County Farmers Markets is possible thanks to funding from Virginia Fresh Match and community partners Arcadia, Britepaths and Cornerstones.

Vendor Spotlight

Pork Stork

Frauke and Doug, owners of Pork Stork, raise their pigs on a farm in northern Orange County, VA. The pair are committed to the well-being and comfort of their animals and have achieved approval in accordance with the Animal Welfare Standards. Their pigs are from rare heritage breeds: Large Black and Red Wattle. They’re born and raised naturally in the woods across a 10-acre pen, allowing them to forage and roam freely. To supplement foraging, the pigs are fed spent grain from local breweries and mash from the neighboring whiskey distillery.

Find them selling pork chops, pork belly bacon, ribs, sausage, and more at the McCutcheon/Mount Vernon Farmers Market on Wednesdays 8:00-12:00pm.
