Food Scrap Stats With your help, we’ve been able to collect over 40,000 lbs. of food scraps across all our Markets since May! That’s over 20 tons of food scraps that we have diverted from the landfill, and instead, turned into nutrient rich compost. If you haven’t gotten in on the fun yet, head to our website to learn what food scraps you can bring to the Markets to be composted.

Ochoa Produce Looking for melons? Next time you're at the McCutcheon/Mount Vernon or Lorton Markets, stop by Ochoa Produce! Jilo Ochoa, aka the watermelon whisperer, tests the ripeness of each melon to ensure you’re getting the best of the best, whether you’re eating it today or later in the week. Jilo and his family have been growing melons and a large variety of other produce since 2010, when they decided to start their own farm in the Northern Neck of Virginia. With almost 50 acres, the family grows a little bit of everything while focusing on manual weeding over herbicides, organic neem oils to control pests, and avoiding chemicals as much as possible. Right now, you can find tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, potatoes, and herbs, but keep an eye out for sweet potatoes by mid-August along with fall squash, and fun bean varieties!
