Fall Compost Competition Going on Now!

Market Fresh Events

Fall Compost Competition

For the entire month of September, we’re challenging customers to drop-off more food scraps to be composted at their Market than they did in August!

  • Each Market will be competing through Sunday, October 1.
  • As an incentive, customers who drop-off their food scraps at the Markets during the last week in September (September 27– October 1) may receive a FREE countertop compost bin (while supplies last).

Volunteers Needed

Calling all local heroes with a passion for fresh, farm-to-table goodness! We're on the lookout for enthusiastic volunteers to join our dynamic team and help make magic happen at our 10 farmers markets across Fairfax County.

Farmers Market Volunteers provide necessary on-site support to ensure our markets run smoothly such as setting up market supplies, supporting customers and vendors, explaining market rules and assisting with outreach.

This is a great volunteer position for anyone that enjoys the outdoors, supports local farmers and food producers, and wants to help bring fresh and local produce to the Fairfax community!

Poppi’s Gourmet Hot Sauce

While Poppi’s Gourmet Hot Sauces can surely bring the heat, Royce (Poppi) and his son Dustin combine around 20 different locally sourced ingredients to bring you sauces that are chock-full of flavor. Growing up with a father who loved anything hot, Royce began searching for good tasting sauces that also had a kick. After years of sampling, he decided it was time he had his own signature sauce. The sauce was a family favorite and in 2020, Dustin –owner of Abundant Acres Farm– asked his dad if he could sell it using the peppers he grew on the farm. Three years later, Poppi’s has over ten hot sauces, an award-winning BBQ sauce (12th place in the world), seasonings and rubs for any meat or veggie, and mouthwatering hot jellies developed by Dustin’s wife, Brittany. From Carolina Reapers and Scotch Bonnets, to even “no heat peppers,” all 25 varieties of peppers are naturally grown in Warrington, VA on Dustin’s farm and on additional nearby farm space. If you’re looking for something on the milder side, try their “Original Gourmet” hot sauce. If you love heat, go for “The Limit”. If you want something in the middle, Poppi’s personal favorite is their “Scotch Bonnet” sauce. Whatever you fancy, stop by the tent at either the Annandale, Herndon, or McLean Markets to try a sample all of their products!
