Fall Compost Competition

Market Fresh Events

Bring your food scraps to the Fairfax County Park Authority Markets!

For the entire month of September, we’re challenging customers to drop-off more food scraps to be composted at their Market than they did in August!

To help each Market reach its goal, we’re giving away FREE countertop compost bins (while supplies last) to customers who drop-off their food scraps at the Markets during the last week in September (Sept. 27 – Oct. 1).

For more information on how to drop-off your food scraps to be composted, and to learn about the benefits of composting click here.

How Far Does Your Produce Travel?

According to the Farmers Market Coalition, produce can travel over 1,000 from farm to grocery store. At the Farmers Market, your produce never travels more than 125 miles. Many of the produce vendors you love have farms in Virigina, but we have also have vendors from Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Maryland. All the fruits and veggies you see at the Markets have been harvested just a day or two before, giving you unbeatable flavor and quality. Taste the difference for yourself and get yourself to a Market!

Vendor Spotlight

Frothy Mug

Who here has ever dreamed about quitting their job and opening a cafĂ©? That’s exactly what Veronica owner of Frothy Mug did in 2023! Coming from 13 years in the tech industry, including as a project manager in cyber security, Veronica did a 180 and started making drinks with dairy-free options including cold brew, iced lattes, frappes, teas and more! She focuses on using local ingredients from other Market vendors, such as watermelons from Linda Vista Farm, and uses little to no added sugar in her drinks. Veronica also drives an electric van and uses compostable cups for her beverages to reduce her impact on the environment. So, if you’re an eco-conscious consumer looking for a yummy dairy-free beverage, Frothy Mug is for you! Come to the Wakefield Market, every Wednesday from 2-6 p.m. to try a watermelon cucumber refresher, iced vanilla latte and more
