Head to the Markets before they close!

The Seasons End, Farmers Market Closing Schedule

One by one, our Markets are headed into hibernation for the Winter. Here’s the latest on what’s closed, what’s closing soon, and what’s staying open.

Know Before You Throw, Pumpkin Palooza!

When pumpkins end up in landfills, the lack of oxygen prevents them from breaking down. Instead, they produce methane gas, a greenhouse gas that is harmful for our climate. Check out these landfill friendly alternatives.

Pumpkin Collection at McCutcheon/Mt. Vernon Market

Help feed the pigs! Drop off your unwanted pumpkins on Wed. Nov 8 at the McCutcheon/Mt. Vernon Market.

PumpkinPalooza

Drop off unwanted pumpkins at the I-66 Transfer Station or the I-95 Landfill Complex between Oct. 30 though Nov. 17.

November Challenge, Go Plastic Free!

After a successful "Plastic Free" month at Wakefield, we're testing it at Mount Vernon in November. We discovered some of our vendors use up to 4,000 plastic bags in one Market day, which is not only bad for the environment but also costly for them. To cut down on plastic bag usage, we're asking vendors to provide green compostable bags and paper bags only. Reusable bags will be available at the Market, so feel free to use them instead of plastic. Bringing your own reusable bags is also a big help!

Vendor Spotlight

This 40-acre farm is located in Berkley Springs, West Virginia and has been run by Glascock’s for generations. Mark Glascock, his wife Laura and about 6 other employees work all year round to bring fresh apples, peaches, tomatoes, cabbages and more to the Reston Market. They are especially known for their tomatoes. With over 20 heirloom varieties and countless other cherry and grape varieties, Mark attributes their tomatoes’ delicious flavor to the clay soil found in Berkeley Springs. You can find more than just produce at the Glascock tent. Laura is a fabulous baker who uses the apples and pumpkins grown in the fields to create apple butter, apple dumplings, pumpkin pies, and breads.

Stop by their tent at the Reston Market this weekend to pick up some fresh, local produce and delicious treats.
