Market Fresh Events

A Season in Review

Thank you all for supporting our ten Farmers Markets during the 2023 season. Let’s look back at the season and what we were able to accomplish together:

  • Supported over 100 small businesses and local farms in 2023! Your loyalty to shopping local is essential as many of our vendors derive their sole source of income from the Markets.
  • Diverted over 120,000 lbs. of food scraps from the waste stream! By setting aside this waste to be turned into nutrient-rich compost, you have helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance our soils.
  • On average, our ten Farmers Markets brought together over 8,900 neighbors each week!

Let’s keep up the good work in 2024!

Just because our Markets are closed for Winter doesn't mean you have to stop supporting local businesses. Shop for products all Winter long through our vendor’s online stores.

How to use Turnips

Some helpful tips on how to eat this root veggie:

  • Use turnips any way you would use a potato. Try them baked or boiled in stews, soups, and stir-fries or lightly steamed.
  • If eating turnips raw, treat them as you would radishes. Enjoy shredded uncooked turnip instead of cabbage in your next batch of homemade coleslaw.
  • Given that turnips closest relatives are arugula and radishes, they have a slight peppery taste. If you like that, eat them raw. If you don’t, cook them (the peppery taste fades when cooked.
