Market Fresh Updates

Plastic-Free and Proud!

How We’ve Said Goodbye to Plastic at the Farmers Markets

If something seems different at the markets this season—it’s not your imagination. We’ve officially gone plastic-free at all 10 market locations! Here’s how we’re making it easy to shop sustainably:

  1. Take a Bag, Leave a Bag – Each market has a community bin. Need one? Take one. Have extras? Leave them!
  2. Grab a Basket – Every produce vendor has baskets you can use while you shop.
  3. Compostables Only as a Last Resort – Forgot your bag? Some vendors offer compostable bags, but we encourage limited use.
  4. Free Reusable Produce Bags – We’re celebrating Plastic Free July by giving away washable produce bags all month long!

Vendor Spotlight: Meet Pork Stork

Frauke’s Forest-Fed Farm is a Local Favorite!

When Frauke bought 20 acres of woodland, she didn’t plan on becoming a pig farmer. But after a chat with friends, inspiration struck—why not raise pigs in the woods? Ten years later, her farm has grown to over 70 acres and is home to 105 large black and red wattle pigs.

Frauke's farm is Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World, meaning her pigs live their entire lives outdoors with high-welfare, sustainable care.

You’ll find Pork Stork at the Mount Vernon Farmers Market every Wednesday morning. Stop by for whole and half hogs or classic cuts like pork belly, ribs and sausages.
